Words To Live By

Earlier this month, Professor Tyler Cowan {hereinafter, "Smarty-pants"} blogged on 10 books that most influenced his world view, and encouraged others to do the same. Turned it into a bit of a smarty-competition. Smarty-pants is a professor of economics and his list - no surprise here - was full of very highbrow stuff. Required reading in most liberal arts circles. And when I was required to read them, I was not moved. No world view shaping here. {Just one girl's opinion.}

More recently, one of my favorite bloggers - Fancy and Folly - listed her top ten reads. I loved them and her commentary as well. She also encouraged others to share their lists. Share. What a nice, non-competitive word.

So with that, here's my list (minus the thoughtful commentary, because I'm just a bit lazy).

Anyone else care to share?

  1. This one is a real thinker... but Watership Down and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn are near the top of my list. I've read each one about 25 times each if not more. They are my comfort food. Mister God, This is Anna would be on there too.

  2. What a wonderful list (and thanks for the shout-out!) The second I saw Owen Meany I realized my list was missing it, too. So much to read, so little time! And I do think we need a yearly favorite book wrap-up - the onus is on you to remind my feeble mind in December!
