Whaling City Cottage

A quick note of thanks to the amazing Erin over at Whaling City Cottage for featuring my newest endeavor, seasalt interieurs, on her fabulous blog.

Our shop features a curated blend of antique and vintage pieces from England, France & America, custom overstuffed pillows sewn from vintage textiles & French ticking, hand-painted work from Mary Maguire and Margot Lar, plus a select group of wonderful items from Faribault, Found My Animal, Hedgehouse, Kolene Spicher, Tinsel Trading, & Thomas Paul, among others.

We're now open at 35 Franklin Street in Newport, Rhode Island, and have a large space at Armory Antique Markeplace at 365 Thames Street as well.  If you're on the island, we'd love to see you!

hunting & gathering

Brought home wonderful finds today ~ all eventually will appear shortly after at The Armory.  Here's the first 3, unpacked and tidied up...  a set of 10 perfect 1920's French champagne coupes, a wonderful book on the people who forged the way West, and a pair of simple ceramic flower frogs with beautiful hand-painted detail. So much more to come.

Mid-Century Gilt

Another treasure from last weekend -- truly the heaviest little tables I've ever lugged into the back of the Ford. Amazing patina. Complete with thick, square glass toppers. Together an amazing coffee table, but also smart on either end of a low-slung sofa.

{Pls ignore the weeds in the drive. The lawn crew obviously does.}

Perfect Hamptons

This tiny cottage was featured in House Beautiful last year.  I loved reading about it because I felt such kinship with its owner, who decorated it piecemeal, with a few good things from her parents and the rest coming from trips to Brimfield, London, Paris, the Dixie Highway, Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton, and a hundred little towns in between. Like me, the owner said she hadn't taken a vacation where she hadn't 'lugged some cumbersome painting or tchotchke home on the plane'. Her very clever eye shows in every inch of this crazy, wonderful 'beach shack'.

Haute Haute Haute

If you're South of the Mason-Dixon and looking for something fabulous to do with family & friends during the holiday season, take in The Art of Affluence: Haute Couture and Luxury Fashions 1947-2007 @ Charlotte's Mint Museum of Art. This exhibition features selections from the Museum’s holdings of haute couture and luxury garments complimented by wonderful accessories that reflect the creativity of numerous fashion designers of the second half of the 20th century and first years of the 21st century.

2 thumbs up.
